Indian Equity Markets Open Higher Amid Cautious Trading
Benchmark indices in India edged higher during Friday's opening session, with the Nifty 50 climbing 0.16% to 24,774.05 and the Sensex rising 0.13% to 80,826.78. The modest gains followed Thursday's volatile session where early enthusiasm gave way to profit booking.
Auto stocks led the advance, with Mahindra & Mahindra topping gainers at +1.59%. Sector peers Eicher Motors and Maruti Suzuki followed closely. Conversely, FMCG shares faced headwinds as ITC slumped 2.27% amid broader sector weakness.
"The market failed to sustain yesterday's gap-up opening as expected short-covering failed to materialize," noted Geojit's Chief Investment Strategist Dr. VK Vijayakumar. The mixed performance reflects ongoing caution despite favorable global cues.
